Welcome to the homepage of the newly created
Scottish Fire Heritage Group.
This ‘new’ group consists of
those passionate in preserving Scotland’s firefighting
past. We are a group of friends linked by a common theme and
all involved have been instrumental in promoting the history
of firefighting in Scotland both with the preservation and
operation of historic vehicles and the acquisition of fire
related equipment and documents.
The website has been totally reconstructed
and we hope you find it both interesting and educational.
It is our intention to focus on the firefighting histories
of Aberdeen and north east Scotland, Glasgow and Edinburgh,
the oldest municipal fire brigade in the world. You will also
find online a photographic collection of the preserved appliances
and equipment each of the three branches of the SFHG has in
its care.
On the website you will find a most comprehensive
links page and details of other collections and fire brigade
museums. The Scottish Fire Heritage Group is also a member
of the Fire Heritage Network UK and is represented on the
Executive Committee by Bob Wright, one of the founder members
of the Network. Our involvement with FHNUK has enabled our
group to forge links with other like minded organisations
throughout the United Kingdom and beyond. For many years now
we have had a long association with the firefighters of Schonstadt
in Germany with many friendships forged through this involvement.
We have also included a Blog
on our website. This is a facility that enables the viewer
to leave comments and have some fun also. It can also be used
to promulgate information regarding meetings etc. Hopefully
our team will be able to answer any relevant questions left
on the Blog.
