1956 Dennis F12 Pump Escape

KHS 590

This appliance was ordered by Western Area Fire Brigade in 1956 and stationed at Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. It was withdrawn from service in the early 70’s and replaced by Water Tender Escape YHS 151H. The vehicle was then stored at A4 North-West in the old workshops to be part of a proposed fire brigade museum which sadly never materialised.

When the North-West closed the F12 was then moved to Brigade H.Q. at Hamilton.

The personnel at Rothesay fire station then asked for the appliance to be returned to them in order that they could restore it to original condition.

The F12 was returned but the planned restoration never took place

The Preservation Group was asked by Strathclyde Fire Brigade to take on the vehicle and in August 2004 it arrived at Greenock Fire Station.

Restoration has been temporarily suspended and will re-start when suitable premises are found in which to continue with the restoration of this classic fire appliance
