Note the twin ignition coils,
unseen on the other side there is a twin petrol feed system - electric
and mechanical.
Dennis
F8 (above) as it was found, in a storage area.
This is a F8 Rolls Dennis, at around 4
ton, it has a light weight six cylinder Rolls Royce engine giving
around 126 B hp from the overhead inlet and side exhaust valve configuration,
top speed around 60 mph. the first picture is of the engine in the
original condition before being repaired / rebuilt back to working
condition, in the second picture there is a man ?, does any one know
him ?
P.S. Vauxhall chevett points do work in it, but you need to remove
a tag from them.
1958 Dennis F8. Water Tender

This appliance was ordered by the Western Area
Fire Brigade on 1stApril 1958 and left the works of Dennis Bros....
of Guildford on 21stAugust 1958.
It served mostly at Greenock as a retained appliance
but also spent some time at Gourock, Port Glasgow and Paisley.
During November 1976 it was disposed of by auction in Glasgow and
bought by the transport company,Tennants
of Forth,who planned to have the appliance completely restored
to original condition but instead, it lay deteriorating for many
years in the corner of a storage shed .
When the Preservation Group first saw the appliance
in late 1995, it was in extremely poor condition and only just roadworthy.
It was purchased in July 1996 and driven back to Glasgow under its
own power.

Glasgow City Council provided our group with storage
facilities and over the next four years the appliance was virtually
rebuilt and restored to original condition and livery, all the
work being carried out by members of the preservation group. The
paint work was done by theColin Hutton Groupafter
our own group had completed most the bodywork preparation.
This
appliance is powered by a 6 cylinderRolls
RoyceB60 4250c.c. petrol engine which develops 120 b.h.p.
and is rated at 29.4 h.p. Petrol consumption is approximately 7
MPG. (on a good day)Unladen weight of around four Ton giving a
power to weight ratio of 30 B hp/TON
The vehicle had the following specification when built
around 1958 :
Rolls Royce Six Cylinder Engine Developing 126 B hp at around 2600 RPM, .
With a Four speed Close ratio Dennis Crash Gearbox, giving a max speed around
60 mph.
Body built by hand in Dennis factory in Guilford, with a Dennis Number Two 500
GPM Pump and a 400 Gallon Water tank feeding a First aid pump via a Five way
Valve, with provision to feed the main Pump.
During 1970 the original engine was replaced with a
new ex army Rolls Royce B60 engine. The multi fuel carburettor was
removed and the original carburettor refitted as was the Delco Remy
distributor. The new Rolls Royce engine then, cost £75.00.
