3 mk1 and 5 mk2 scooshers in Kelvingrove park, Glasgow

1969 Dennis ‘D’

Mark 1 Scoosher

SGE 702G

The Scoosher was designed by the Glasgow Fire Service for use in the Anderson Centre where weight and width constraints on the podium decks necessitated the use of a lightweight and specially designed fire appliance.

The result was the Scoosher. Three Mark 1 appliances were delivered by Dennis Brothers and completed by J C Bennetts of Springburn. Based on a D type chassis powered by a 4.2 L Jaguar engine developing 240 BHP.

. This particular appliance was stationed at the West-Marine (now Yorkhill) and later at A.8. Anderson.

Now believed to be the only Mk1 in existence, SGE 702G is in extremely poor condition and could well prove to be a lengthy but worthwhile restoration project.

It is hoped that once suitable premises can be found restoration can continue on this unique piece of Glasgow Fire Service history.
